The new “African Savannah” exhibit at Riga National Zoo occupies almost one-tenth of the zoo’s territory. As part of the construction, the new savannah animal exhibit was created on a 1.7-hectare area next to the existing giraffe house. This includes habitats for zebras, antelopes, and meerkats (with outdoor walking areas), a habitat for patas monkeys (with an adjacent water reservoir), and a habitat for hornbills (with a covered outdoor enclosure). The animal habitats are connected by a system of visitor pathways and viewing platforms, with a total length of 330 meters. Read more.
