The revitalization of the Spīķeri Quarter and the adjacent riverbank is one of the most significant public space projects in Riga. As a result of the Spīķeri Quarter revitalization project, a degraded urban area has been transformed into a well-maintained and green space, creating opportunities to host various cultural events, offering the Daugava riverbank for relaxation for Riga residents and visitors, and ensuring accessibility for people with functional impairments. The project involved a complete reconstruction of the external engineering networks of the Spīķeri Quarter – replacement of water and sewage systems, construction of a stormwater drainage system, and installation of external lighting, significantly increasing the value of the Spīķeri Quarter. A large square for events was created in the Spīķeri Quarter, along with a children’s playground, benches, including a distinctive bench along the tunnel support wall, stretching 93 meters. The Spīķeri Quarter and the 1.2 km long reconstructed Daugava river promenade are connected by a rebuilt tunnel, providing access for people with mobility impairments and cyclists via ramps.
